The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Paramedical Sciences,College of Pharmacy, Coimbatore was established in the year 1993. The scope of the department is to instil the knowledge of drug chemistry so as to explore natural product chemistry, synthetic strategies and design and development of novel therapeutic agents. The department is well equipped with structured and sophisticated laboratory instruments and computer aided drug design software like Life Sciences suite of the Schrodinger focusing on lead optimization, QSAR and docking studies. Research activities also include antimicrobial drug discovery focusing on vital enzyme target inhibitory studies. The focus of the department is on novel research activities which include the synthesis and screening of various heterocyclic compounds for their biological activities. The department is an approved centre for Ph.D programme of The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai and 28 candidates have been awarded till date. About 164 students had post graduated from the department and is presently associated with various avenues in the professional front.
